04 May 2022 --- The United Nations World Tourism Organization welcomed Mr. Mohamed Ali Janah, President of the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors' Associations (IFAWPCA), to share his insights on the Prospects for Sustainable Resilient Recovery Tourism. The context-setting debate was focused on the tourism industry's recovery from the effects of COVID-19 and its chances for contributing to a long-term global recovery.

He said in part of his address "While tourism is one of the strongest engines of economic growth in many countries like the Maldives and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region, construction industry plays  a vital lifeline role in sustaining our economies. A healthy construction industry has a  direct bearing on the success of the tourism industry. It is the construction industry  that builds the hardware upon which the tourism industry thrives and flourishes. And  today, both of these industries are enduring the harshest of fallouts from the Covid-19  global pandemic."

He restated this in his final remarks, "We need to refocus on our efforts to remove impediments to the movement of  investment and financial services across the world. This is the immediate work we  need to do in order to ensure that the our people are able to project development  targets that sees pre-pandemic growth to be a short-term possibility and not a distant  mirage. This is the time to rejuvenate hope in our abilities to bounce back. It comes  from a common sense approach to global policy making".
